Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)  As the nation's special education law, IDEA serves approximately 6.8 million children and youth with disabilities.  This link will allow you to read the law in it's entirety.  

Wrightslaw  Parents, educators, advocates, and attorneys may utilize the Wrightslaw website for accurate, reliable information about special education law, education law, and advocacy for children with disabilities.

Community Health Law Project The Community Health Law Project (CHLP) is a nonprofit advocacy and legal services organization dedicated to serving the needs of low-income people with disabilities in New Jersey.

Advocacy Resources

Family Resource Network (FRN)   The Family Resource Network (FRN) is a comprehensive, family-focused, organization designed to meet the growing need for community based programs and services to this rising population. FRN's affiliated organizations are Autism Family Services of NJ, Caregivers of NJ, Epilepsy Foundation of NJ and the Family Support Center of NJ.

NJ Statewide Parents Advocacy Network (NJ SPANThe mission of the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network is to empower and support families and inform and involve professionals and others interested in the healthy development and education of children and youth.  NJSPAN provides teleconferences, workshops, training and support.

New Jersey Division of Family Health Services, Early Intervention System  NJEIS under the Division of Family Health Services, implements New Jersey's statewide system of services for infants and toddlers, birth to age three, with developmental delays or disabilities, and their families. The Department of Health and Senior Services is appointed by the Governor as the state lead agency for the Early Intervention System.

New Jersey Statewide Parent to Parent  is a statewide network of parents supporting families of children with developmental delays, disabilities, and special health needs.

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Asperger's Info Page

Autism Society of America (ASA) Provides a basic overview of Asperger's Syndrome and resources. 

O.A.S.I.S  (Online Aspergers Syndrome Information & Support) An excellent guide to Asperger Syndrome resources on the Internet. Includes research, education, computers, social strategies, legal Information, clinical resources, conferences, personal and family pages, discussion groups, and other resources.

Autism 
New Horizons in Autism Dedicated to serving individuals with autism and their families in New Jersey by delivering community based services; providing advocacy, support and technical assistance; increasing public awareness and education about autism; contributing to the body of knowledge in the field of autism.

Parents of Autistic Children Together (PACT)  PACT is a support group for parents of children with Autisitc Spectrum Disorders.  Their main goal is to act as an information clearinghouse and resource center for families dealing with ASD by providing information on legal rights, educational programs and treatment options.  PACT also sponsors many social activities for the entire family throughout the year.

Autism Network International (ANI)  ANI is an autistic-run self-help and advocacy organization for autistic people.  Its website includes information about the organization and its services, personal views of autism by some of its members, and related links.

Autism Research Institute (ARI)  ARI conducts and fosters research designed to improve the methods of diagnosing, treating, and preventing autism, and disseminates research findings to parents and others. Its website includes a wide range of information, with a focus on research about new treatments. Also included are articles from its newsletter, Autism Research Review International, and information about Defeat Autism Now (DAN).

Autism Resources  Produced by John Wobus, the father of a child with autism, this site features an extensive "FAQ" from the AUTISM Mailing List, definitions of terms, references to books, organizations, treatment programs, and other information from the list's online discussions and other sources. In addition, the site offers a large, classified collection of links.

Autism Society of America (ASA)  The web site of this major national organization offers a wealth of information for parents and service providers, including "information packages" on such topics as educational rights, medical insurance, residential options, employment, and much more.

Autistics.org Produced by volunteers "by and for persons on the autistic spectrum," autistics.org is a nicely done web site that focuses on self-help and self-advocacy resources for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. The "library" features articles that reflect the personal perspectives of its contributors. The extensive links collection is hierarchically organized and annotated.

Center for the Study of Autism (CSA) The CSA web site offers information and articles about autism and related disorders, issues, interventions, and sibling concerns. There are numerous articles by and about Temple Grandin (a woman with autism who has a Ph.D. and a successful international career designing livestock equipment), as well as interviews with her and other notable persons in the field.

Blindness and Visual Impairments 
New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired The mission of the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired is to promote and provide services in the areas of education, employment, independence and eye health through informed choice and partnership with persons who are blind or visually impaired, their families and the community.

Blindness Resource Center  This extensive meta site describes online resources relating to blindness and visual impairments. Categories include access to the Internet, braille, deaf-blindness, eye diseases, low vision resources, on-line information, organizations, research, university programs, vendors, and web home pages of the blind community. An excellent guide, despite a strong commercial influence.

BLIST: The Comprehensive Index of Blindness-Related Emailing Lists Information about more than a hundred blindness-related emailing lists and newsgroups, as well as an extensive listing of more general accessibility disability lists. Also available in plain ASCII, zipped and email versions.

V.I. Guide; A Guide to Internet Resources About Visual Impairments for Parents and Teachers An extensive and well-organized guide to on- (and some off-) line resources by the parent of a child with a visual impairment.

Vision Problems in the U.S.  A report on the prevalence of adult vision impairment and age-related eye diseases in America , jointly sponsored by the National Eye Institute and Prevent Blindness America.

Brain Injury 
Brain Injury Association of New Jersey  BIANJ's Mission is to support and advocate for individuals affected by brain injury and raise public awareness through education and prevention.

Brain Injury Association The website of this national organization is packed with information, resources, and interactive opportunities. Topics range from "The Road to Rehabilitation" to the costs and causes of brain injury. You'll also find a kids corner, conference listing, and chat room. Many of the documents are in pdf format.

Headinjury.com  Maintained by the Head Injury Hotline, this site provides information, education and support to foster self-advocacy and self-care centered in partnership with families and professionals. Services & Resources on this site reflect the best practices in the field of Traumatic Brain Injury.

Perspectives Network This organization focuses on "positive communication between persons with brain injury, family members/ caregivers/friends of persons with brain injury, professionals who treat persons with brain injury and community members in order to create positive changes and enhance public awareness and knowledge of acquired/traumatic brain injury." Its web site includes a message board, frequently asked questions, articles, reference materials, resource lists, a survivor art gallery, free e-mail service, and more.

TBI-Net  TBI-Net is sponsored by the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The site includes FAQs; a searchable database of TBI-related articles, advice, poetry, and creative writing from individuals with TBI; information about the Research Training Center  and its research activities.

Celiac Disease

provides a great deal of information on Celiac Disease, diagnosing, testing, treatments, dietary inforamation, food lists and recipes. http://www.celiac.com/

Cerebral Palsy 
United Cerebral Palsy Associations of New Jersey  United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) is a leading source of information on cerebral palsy and is a pivotal advocate for the rights of persons with any disability. As one of the largest health charities in America , the UCP mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities through an affiliate network.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome 
New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association Provides support to patients and families struggling with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in New Jersey .

Communication Disorders 
New Jersey Speech and Hearing Association  NJSHA serves audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language or hearing scientists by providing resources, information, programs, and services that meet members' needs; promoting public awareness; and advocating for professional standards, legislation, and regulation necessary to provide the highest quality of care for the individuals they serve.

Cystic Fibrosis 
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Greater New Jersey Chapter  The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease.

Deafness and Hearing Impairments
New Jersey Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Part of the Department of Human Services, the Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DDHH) provides Information and Referral Services, Technical Assistance, Advocacy, Publications, Equipment Distribution Program, and Assistive Communication Device Demonstrations. 

New Jersey Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf   The principal purpose of NJRID is to initiate, sponsor, promote and execute activities that further the profession of interpretation/transliteration of American Sign Language and English. 

Developmental Disabilities 
Alternatives Alternatives, Inc. is a community-based; non-profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals with special needs reach their highest level of independence and integration into the community by providing residential opportunities coupled with comprehensive support services.

Arc of New Jersey  The Arc of New Jersey is a statewide, private, nonprofit advocacy organization incorporated in 1949 by a group of parents who had a vision of building a better quality of life for children and adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, and their families.

Developmental Disabilities Health Alliance (Managed care organization for people with developmental disabilities) The mission of Developmental Disabilities Health Alliance, Inc. is to provide high quality, cost effective health care to people with developmental disabilities who live in the community.

Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) The New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), one of the largest agencies in state government, provides public funding for and services through agencies to people with developmental disabilities.

Elizabeth M. Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities (university affiliated program) The Elizabeth M. Boggs Center, as a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, values uniqueness and individuality and promotes the self-determination and full participation of people with disabilities and their families in all aspects of community life.

New Jersey Developmental Disabilities Council  The New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities, funded by the federal government with matching funds from the state, is a lead change agent in the State responsible for a vision of what the lives of people with developmental disabilities should be. Through its membership and its activities and projects, the Council provides a forum and resources for making its vision a reality.

Diabetes 
American Diabetes Association - Serving New Jersey  The American Diabetes Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes.  

Down Syndrome
National Down Syndrome Society  The mission of the National Down Syndrome Society is to be the national advocate for the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.

National Down Syndrome Congress  The mission of the NDSC is  to provide information, advocacy and support concerning all aspects of life for individuals with Down Syndrome.

Down Syndrome Research Online Advocacy Group  The Down Syndrome Research Online Advocacy Group is a non- profit scientific and educational effort aimed at increasing public understanding and support for clinical and biomedical research into Down syndrome.

Dyspraxia
Dyspraxia USA  Dyspraxia USA ’s goal is to generate awareness about neuro-diversity and help those living with Dyspraxia.

Center for Development and Learning (Dyspraxia, Graphomotor Skills)  Glenda Thorne, Ph.D. provides useful information related to graphomotor skills and handwriting challenges.

Epilepsy 
Epilepsy Foundation New Jersey  The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey, an affiliate of the National Epilepsy Foundation, is a state-wide, non-profit charitable agency dedicated to helping to improve the quality of life for people affected by epilepsy and their  loved ones.

Gastro Disorders, Digestive Disorders and Celiac Disease
American College of Gastroenterology  The web site of this international professional association includes a wide variety of patient education materials and a physician locator.

Celiac Disease  Celiac.com provides a great deal of information on Celiac Disease, diagnosing, testing, treatments, dietary inforamation, food lists and recipes. 

Crohns Disease/Ulcerative Colitis/Inflammatory Bowel Disease Pages Bill Robertson's personal web site is an extensive guide to online resources about digestive disorders. The annotated links include FAQs, medical institutions. pharmaceutical companies, service providers, government agencies, sites hosted by individuals, commercial sites, news groups, mail lists and chat channels, support organizations, and more.

NIDDK Health Information - Digestive Diseases  This section of the National Institutes of Health / National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney (NIDDK) Diseases website offers an extensive array of online publications about all kinds of digestive disorders Directories of organizations for patients and professionals and a digestive disease dictionary are also included.

Hydrocephalus
Hydrocephalus  A good overview from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons / Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Covers diagnosis, treatment, recovery, role of the neurosurgeon, glossary, and frequently asked questions.

Hydrocephalus Association  The Hydrocephalus Association’s mission is to eliminate the challenges of hydrocephalus by stimulating innovative research and providing support, education and advocacy for individuals, families and professionals dealing with hydrocephalus.

Hydrocephalus Foundation (HyFI) The Hydrocephalus Foundation, Inc. (HyFI) is a registered, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support, educational resources and networking opportunities to patients and families affected by hydrocephalus. The Foundation also promotes related research and facilitates the training of healthcare professionals to improve patient outcome.

Leukemia 
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of NJ  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.

Assistive Technology 
Assistive Technology Guide Prepared by the Frostig Center in Pasadena , California , which is devoted to children with learning disabilities, this easy-to-read booklet discusses the types of assistive technology currently available, and helps parents decide which ones are appropriate for their child. Technologies covered include those for written language, reading, listening, organization and memory, and math. On the Schwab Foundation web site.

DREAMMS for Kids DREAMMS is a nonprofit organizaton "committed to increasing the use of computers, high quality instructional technology, and assistive technologies for students with special needs in schools, homes and the workplace." Its web site includes articles and links relating to assistive technology and children, funding, state assistive technology products, and more.

EASI's K12 Education Technology Centre This section of the EASI (Equal Access to Software and Information) web site includes resources and links relating to Department of Education support for adaptive technology, K-12 science, engineering and math resources, adaptive technology hardware and software solutions, links for kids, parent resources, resources for teachers, and online workshops.

The National Assistive Technology Advocacy Project:  Operated by Neighborhood Legal Services, Inc., this federally-funded project "supports the advocacy efforts of attorneys, advocates, service agencies, persons with disabilities and their families as they seek funding for AT services and devices." Its web site includes a series of booklets on funding AT, a compendium of court and hearing decisions relating to AT, articles, legal rulings, and the like.

Macintosh Disability Shareware and Freeware  Scott Norris's collection of disability shareware and freeware for the Mac can be downloaded from this page.

Screen Magnifiers Homepage Peter Verhoeven's site on computer programs for large print and voice access includes downloadable versions of many screen magnifier, screen review, and alternative mouse software products.

Trace Center - Software Toolkits  A great collection of accessibility freeware and shareware for Apple Macintosh, Microsoft Windows 95/98, and UNIX and Linux systems. Includes software for people with all kinds of sensory and physical disabilities.

Training and Technical Assistance Center for Professionals Serving Students with Disabilities - TAC Shareware/Public Domain Library These programs for DOS, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 include fun, language arts, math, science, social studies, and teacher utilities.

Virtual Assistance Technology Center  An excellent collection of freeware and shareware for Macs, DOS and Windows.
